Daryl Irvine is a senior commercial and contracts manager, Chartered Quantity Surveyor and Chartered Construction Manager with more than 12 years’ experience across the UK and Middle East. He holds an LLM in Construction Law and Adjudication and is also a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He has led commercial and contractual work on major public-sector, infrastructure and building programmes, including roads, airports, water and wastewater facilities, data centres, nuclear-related works, manufacturing, agriculture, residential, hospitality and fit-out projects. His experience covers consultant and contractor environments, with particular strength in FIDIC and NEC contracts, cost-plus arrangements, procurement, claims, audit, change control and the recovery of distressed projects. In his project roles, Daryl advises clients and senior leadership teams on commercial strategy, contractual entitlement, cost exposure and project controls. He has directed commercial teams, assessed high-value claims, reviewed contractor cost records, prepared formal recommendations and introduced reporting and governance systems for complex national programmes. Daryl is Chair of the CIOB Qatar Hub Committee, a member of the CIOB Member Engagement Committee and a board member of the RICS Qatar Regional Board. Through these roles, he represents the profession in Qatar and across the wider Gulf, supports member and industry activity, and contributes to policy discussions affecting the construction sector. He has also worked with professional bodies, the British Embassy and government stakeholders in support of the UK-GCC Free Trade Agreement. A particular focus of this work has been the recognition of UK professional qualifications and accreditation bodies across Gulf markets, helping to improve access and professional mobility for UK-qualified construction professionals. For more than four years, Daryl has been applying artificial intelligence to commercial management and construction data. He uses Codex and related tools for contract review, audit testing, formal correspondence, claims support and commercial reporting. His work also extends into data engineering and data science, including the structuring of cost data, classification between methods of measurement, automated reporting and the design of controlled review processes for commercial information. Alongside his project duties, he advises businesses on the practical adoption of artificial intelligence, with a focus on data quality, security, professional review and the use of AI within established commercial controls.
